STRONG THREADS

STRONG THREADS, coordinated by Veronica Primus, is an exciting African American Heritage Festival held since 2009 in Hopkins, SC. SERCO, South East Rural Community Outreach, a community based organization working to enrich and educate the community of Lower Richland County, has sponsored Strong Threads. They sponsor events to attract tourists with historical tours, festivals and other educating events. Their premier event is the Congaree Swampfest in partnership with the Congaree Swamp National Park.  Past funding has come from the Richland County Hospitality Tax Fund.

STRONG THREADS seeks to bring everyone in the  community together to build bridges of understanding for peace and empowerment. People of all culture are encouraged to learn more about African American heritage because of the lack of knowledge available in textbooks and the general media. Thanks to the many hard working committee members  and supporters over the years to include, Jewel Moore, Marie Barber Adams, Mary Barber Kirkland, Carrie Barber White, Jean Barber Grant, Thomas Gunter, Carlos Santan, Rev. Sammy Wade, Berniece Scott, Josie Bright-Stone and many more.

Since 2009, we have had national artists appear such as, Jennifer Holliday, Melba Moore, Jonathan Green, Regina Skeeters, ABATSU African Drummers and Dancers, Jeffrey Lampkin, and many others. Participants have traveled from SC, GA, NC, TN, FL and MD to attend this event. Audiences have numbered in the thousands.

This year, 2020, will be our twelfth year of service to the community. Funding is needed to continue this exciting festival, virtually and on site in the future.

PLEASE MAKE A DONATION.

THANK YOU.

Veronica Primus, Director
